What do Instructional Designers do?

Many people in the world are content experts, but are not sure how best to convey their knowledge to other people. Instructional designers help content experts organize and deliver their content effectively to maximize student learning.

I design learning opportunities for adults and kids in businesses and educational institutions. In some cases, I teach the resulting course or workshop; in other cases, I develop templates, resource kits, or course packets for others to teach.

Why hire an Instructional Designer?

  • Subject matter experts aren't always good teachers.
  • Teachers don't always have time to develop new curricula.
  • Instructional Designers know the nuances of teaching a variety of students, from at-risk kids to working adults.
  • Instructional Designers can design instruction that works within the limits of your situation, such as restricted budgets, high teacher turnover, or specific learner needs.
